Frequently Asked Questions
What is Marriage & Family Therapy?
Marriage and Family Therapy is a way of practicing therapy through a systemic lens. As a Marriage & Family Therapist, I am interested in how your relationships (or, your systems) interfere with or amplify your sense of self. It is true that MFT’s specialize in couples and families, but we also use that specialty to inform our work with individual clients. I believe that our personal work will always hit barriers until we are able to the work we do in therapy to strengthen relationships, or compassionately end them. What is your rate & do you take insurance?
My rate for a 50 minute individual therapy session is $100. I offer a sliding scale rate based on availability. I accept HSA's, credit & debit cards. I can provide the necessary documentation for you to submit your payments to potentially be reimbursed by your insurance provider.
I do not accept insurance, which allows for quicker access to services, and no limitations on duration of treatment or length of sessions. By not accepting insurance, I do not have to share your diagnosis with your insurance agency and have that permanently on your health record.
What’s the difference between a Therapist vs. Coach for ADHD?
ADHD coaches are great for helping with executive functioning, which tends to be a big issue for those of us with ADHD. You can think of your ADHD coach similarly to an accountability buddy—they will help you stay on track and organize in a way that works for your ADHD. Therapists are great at helping you manage the way your ADHD affects your relationships and the other symptoms that may arise, like anxiety or low self-esteem.
